Wahine Whā

As part of the Mana Wāhine series, this punch needle piece showcases a Māori woman in a more traditional style, combining Māori art with modern technique. This artwork aims to captivate by paying homage to cultural heritage by bridging the past and present in order to enrich any contemporary space.

In this particular punch needle piece, I explore grief, incorporating the Maori "roimata" (tears) motif. Inspired by tīpuna guided message, "One day you'll learn to carry sadness, instead of letting it weigh you down" this ready-to-hang artwork offers a poignant reminder of resilience and healing.

The piece is mounted on a circular wooden frame, backed onto Monk's Cloth, and features an assortment of yarns and fibers.
